Contractor’s State License Board Enforcement Stings

From March 8-10, 2011, the Contractor’s State License Board conducted one of your twice yearly undercover sting operations in order to catch unlicensed contractors. The sting spanned 10 cities across the State of California. Charges for the over 135 alleged unlicensed contractors included illegal advertising, and excessive down payments.

Homeowners should be aware of unlicensed contractors, and less often thought about, licensed contractors should also ensure they check the licensing status of those working as subcontractors. Under the law, if a Contractor knows that someone they hire as a subcontractor is unlicensed, they may be charged with aiding and abetting the unlicensed practice of contracting.
